GEOGRAPHY
Our high-quality, well thought out curriculum intent enables children to ‘branch out’ and discover other regions in the UK before exploring the rest of the world’s key physical and human features and our teaching equips our pupils with the knowledge and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments.
Geographical knowledge at St Alban’s begins with our children and their immediate world, which is highly relevant to them.

Why are we surrounded by canals?

These questions begin the basis of children’s learning, allowing them to understand their place in the world and gain contextual knowledge about the world that is around them and local to them.

From here, children move out into the world surrounding their local area. They begin to explore contrasting localities to our local area, including weather patterns and environmental changes before moving on to the wider world around them, where children are given the opportunity to learn about key countries, continents, physical and human features within these places and apply their geographical skills and knowledge to the impact on people and places.
